Both teams in the High School Football America 100, powered by NFL Play Football, the NFL’s initiative to provide fun and engaging experience for players of all ages and skill levels, opened 2021 with wins Thursday night.

No. 23 Archbishop Hoban opened the 2021 high school football season with a 38-0 shutout of Bishop Sycamore and No. 88 Charlotte Catholic beat South Mecklenburg 13-6.

Hoban, the winners of five Ohio state championships in six years, was led by running back Lamar Sperling with 135 yards and three touchdowns.

Four-time defending North Carolina high school football champ Charlotte Catholic opened with a 13-6 win over South Mecklenburg. The Cougars, ranked No. 88 in the Top 100, won their season opener while battling a two hour lightning delay.
