County music superstar Toby Keith passed away Monday after a long battle with stomach cancer. Keith, an Oklahoma native, was big football fan. He played defensive end at Moore High School in the late 70’s.

After graduation, Keith went to work in the oil industry. In the early 80’s with the oil business struggling, he found himself unemployed. In order to make ends meet, he went back to the gridiron, playing for the semi-pro Oklahoma City Drillers while continuing to perform with his band. In media reports, the Drillers are described as a “farm team” for the United States Football League’s (USFL) Oklahoma Outlaws.

Keith was 62-years old.
