Top 100: No. 3 Buford rolls by No. 17 Thompson in battle of 3X Alabama and Georgia state champions

Buford’s entrance into Georgia’s 7A classification is off to a successful start. Friday night at the Freedom Bowl in Milton, Georgia, the Wolves beat Thompson 38-7 in a battle of three-time state champs.

Buford, ranked No. 3 in the High School Football America 100 preseason national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, has won state titles in every classification from 1A through 6A. The game was close through the first half with Buford leading No. 17 Thompson 7-0 at the break.

In the second half, the Buford defense turned-up the heat with two Pick’6’s. Overall, the Wolves held Thompson to 155 yards in total offense.

On offense, 5-star running back Justice Haynes, who has given his verbal commitment to Alabama, ran for 93-yards and a touchdown, plus he had a 97-yard kickoff return for a score.

Next-up for Buford will be a home game next week against North Carolina’s Mallard Creek, ranked No. 234. Thompson will be home next week to play Lipscomb Academy from Tennessee, ranked No. 29 in our preseason national rankings.
