For the fourth time in seven years, Detroit Martin Luther King is celebrating a Michigan high school football championship. Saturday, at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, the Crusaders beat defending Division 3 champ DeWitt 25-21 for the 2021 state championship.
MLK entered the game ranked No. 63 in the High School Football America 100 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. The Crusaders were also the top team in the HSFA Michigan Top 10. DeWitt was ranked No. 7 in our statewide rankings.
DeWitt led the game 21-19 at the half. Sterling Anderson Jr. scored the game-winner on a 3-yard run with 8:22 remaining in the contest.
