Top 100: No. 80 Zachary wins Louisiana 5A title

Zachary, ranked No. 80 in the High School Football America 100 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, overcame a 20-14 halftime deficit to win the 2021 5A Louisiana high school football championship. The Broncos won their fourth title in seven years by beating Ponchatoula 28-20 Saturday at the Caesars Superdome, home of the New Orleans Saints.

Junior quarterback Eli Holstein scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 1-yard run in the third quarter. He then tossed a 41-yard touchdown pass on Zachary’s next drive to seal the victory.

Holstein won Most Oustanding Player award after 13 of 30 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns.

Zachary finishes a perfect 15-0 while Ponchatoula loses its first game to end 2021 with a 12-1 record.
