This time of the year is a good one with some states in the playoffs and others wrapping-up the regular season, handing out conference/district/league/region championships.

In California Friday night, No. 1 Mater Dei won the Trinity League championship outright by beating JSerra, but all eyes were on the showdown between No. 3 St. John Bosco and No. 19 Servite.

Servite was looking to make a statement, coming-off a very solid performance last week to Mater Dei. The winner of this one would finish second in the league and wrap-up the No. 2 seed, behind Mater Dei, for the upcoming CIF-Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

This was close until the end. Up 17-10, Bosco’s Katin Hauser locked-up the victory with a 39-yard touchdown pass to Chedon James on a fourth-and-four play.

Defending national champ IMG got a scare in Alabama Friday night. The No. 4 Ascenders trailed No. 118 Auburn 17-13 midway through the fourth quarter. Two late scores gave IMG a 27-17 victory.
