No. 1 Mater Dei and No. 2 St. John Bosco remain on course for their October 25 Trinity League showdown.
While the MD/SJB rivalry has dominated Southern California for more than a decade, the Servite game also gets Mater Dei pumped up. Friday night, the top-ranked Monarchs beat the Friars 28-6 in their rivalry game that dates back to 1961.
Quarterback Dash Beierly was 19-of-22 for 290 yards with three touchdowns in the victory that improves the Monarchs to 6-0 overall, 2-0 in league play. The loss is the first of the year for Servite, which drops to 6-1, 1-1 in league play.
Next week, Mater Dei will be on the road against JSerra.
No. 2 St. John Bosco was in a dogfight until the six minute mark against No. 50 Santa Margarita. The Braves and Eagles were tied a 0-0 midway through the fourth quarter when Hunter Aidan-Cox blocked a punt. Brandon Nash fell on it in the end zone to give the Braves the lead on the way to a 13-0 win.
SJB used two quarterbacks Friday night. Matai Fuiava, who missed last week’s game against Orange Lutheran, completed 6 of 13 passes for 50 yards. Freshman Koa Malau’ulu completed 5 of 11 passes for 46 yards and added a late rushing touchdown.
Next week, Bosco will play Servite at SoFi Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Chargers and Rams.

No. 12 OLu rebounded from its heartbreaking loss to Bosco last week with a 23-17 win over No. 35 JSerra.
OLu showed a lot of resilience in a game that had to be stopped-and-started several times by power outages at Orange Coast College.
JSerra led twice, including 14-10 with 7:06 to play in the third quarter on Jarod Sersansie’s 7-yard touchdown catch.
However, after that, it was all Lancers, who put together a 15-play, 80-yard drive to take a 16-14 lead on a 2-yard touchdown run by Steve Chavez.
They extended their lead to 23-14 when AJ Ia caught his second TD pass of the game with 5:56 to play.
