Practice for the Cougars of Abilene Cooper kicked off full tilt today. Full, gear, lots of hitting and a good effort from the Westerners. We need to keep this pace up for the week.
My message to the Westerners today was, keep what is yours. What that means is we are in a playoff spot right now, keep it. Do not relent. We need to play well and handle our business.
We control our own destiny. You cannot ask for anything more. It’s going to be a fun next three weeks.
Field Trip
The Westerners loaded up a bus today, clad in our home jerseys, and traveled over to Roscoe Wilson Elementary School. Roscoe is an LHS feeder school, so we dropped in to say hello.
The students lined the halls and the Westerners walked through and slapped hands with all the little guys and gals. It was a lot of fun to see!
There is great energy over there at Roscoe. It was an outstanding visit. We will be doing this kind of thing more frequently.
The Sand Pit
We kicked off practice today in the sand pit, doing some one on ones. We need to be tough down the stretch so putting them in the pit and going at each other gets the blood flowing.
Lake View stuffed us on four straight goal line plays last week. We need to get better. So, today we used the pit to drive home the message that it is time to toughen-up and gain some tough yardage.
We will see if this pays off on Friday night.
Randomness
-The Cubs need to hit.
-Cubs fans are already saying “well there goes the World Series.” Good grief. If they lose tonight the series is 2-1. Chill out. I don’t care if it has been over 100 years. Their fans are way too fickle.
-“Hating” high school football opponents is the wrong mindset. It’s high school football. Nothing more, nothing less.
-Ohio St. and Alabama are two good college football teams. Hot take.
-Hockey season is here. That is a huge welcome!
-NBA season is near too. That isn’t so good to me.
That is all I hate for today. Big week ahead of us.
