Well, the Westerners pulled one off on Friday night with a 28-25 win over Shallowater.
This was a complete team effort, with major contributions coming from each phase of the game. It was the first complete game that we have played all year, despite playing behind for almost the entire game.
It was an outstanding way to end a pretty unique week for the Westerners. The only thing I was doing last week was venting and defending my players and coaches. I had no idea this blog was going to take off like it did, but I’m glad it did. It gave our guys a voice. We have gained support from all corners of the United States.
Our kids gained some respect last week. That’s all I ever want for them. They work hard. They are all effort. That deserves respect. There is a lot more respect in great work ethic than there is in a few wins.
Thankfully, our kids earned some respect last week and earned a victory in the process. That makes me smile.
Proud Moment
Before the game I was standing behind my team, as they were waiting to take the field. The National Anthem was played while we stood there. What I observed was awesome!
My team had their helmets in their left hand. Right hand was on the heart. That is our normal routine. However, on this night, they sang along to the National Anthem.
I just stood back there and smiled.
Do I need to say anything else about this?
A new week begins. It is a bye week, but nonetheless the Westerners will be out there working.
More to come this week.
