Three-time reigning Florida state champ Chaminade-Madonna may still have been recovering from its hard-fought loss to two-time national champ St. John Bosco (California) last week when it took the field to play Blanche Ely Friday evening. However, no one expected C-M to struggle against the unranked Tigers.
But that’s what happened with Blanche Ely taking a 21-7 lead in the third quarter against the Lions, ranked No. 5 in the High School Football America 300, powered by NFL Play Football. Down two scores, the Lions dug deep to tie the game at 28-28.
With just seconds to play, the Lions had a chance to pick-up a come-from-behind win with a 30-yard field goal. However, that’s when the Tigers came up with one of two huge blocks.
The first (below) sent the game into overtime.
Blanche Ely scored first in overtime. Chaminade-Madonna then scored on its first play of OT. But, the Tigers blocked the extra point for the win.
Things don’t get any easier for C-M (0-2) as they play No. 25 American Heritage of Plantation next week.
Blanche Ely, which will soar into the new HSFA 300 that will be released on Sunday, will try to improve to 3-0 when it plays Stranahan.
