No Upson-Lee High School football player will ever wear No. 44 ever again. Last week, the Thomaston, Georgia school honored Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Travon Walker by retiring his number.

Walker, who was the No. 1 overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, was a standout football and basketball player at U-L. On the gridiron, he played multiple positions on defense for the Knights. On offensive he lined-up at tight end and running back.

A 5-star football recruit in the Class of 2019, Walker was also very good on the basketball court. A four-year starter on the hardwood, Walker averaged a double-double for his career with 11.7 points a game and 10.8 rebounds.

During his time on the court, Walker led Upson-Lee to two state championships, plus a 75-game win streak.

Recently, Walker spoke with High School Football America’s Jeff Fisher about his memories at Upson-Lee.
