Vermont high school football realigns for 2023

The Vermont Interscholastic Football League will have a new look in the fall. The state’s 31 teams will be placed into five leagues under a recently announced realignment.

Under the new format, each team will play every team in its league with the rest of the eight-game regular season being filled-out with non-league opponents. Below are the leagues:

League 1: BFA-St. Albans. Colchester, CVU, Essex, Seawolves, St. Johnsbury

League 2: Brattleboro, Burr and Burton Academy, Hartford, Middlebury, Mount Anthony, Rutland

League 3: Bellows Falls, Fair Haven, Lyndon Institute, Mount Mansfield, North Country, U-32

League 4: BFA-Fairfax, Milton, Missisquoi, Mount Abraham, Otter Valley, Rice, Spaulding

League 5: Mill River, Oxbow, Poultney, Springfield, Windsor, Woodstock

There is some movement within the state three divisions that are used for the postseason.

Reigning Division II champ Mount Anthony will be moving-up to Division I in 2023. Brattleboro is also moving-up to the top division.

Division I: BFA-St. Albans, Brattleboro, Burr and Burton Academy, CVU, Essex, Hartford, Middlebury, Mount Anthony, Rutland, Seawolves, St. Johnsbury
