Vermont high school football realigns

Vermont is one of the small state’s when it comes to high school football, but it will have different look in 2022.

The Vermont Interscholastic Football League committee has realigned the states’ 30 teams using a formula using total players within a program, size of the school and a team’s recent success.  

Dropping from Division I to Division II will be Colchester and Mount Mansfield.

Dropping from Division II to Division III are Milton, Mount Abraham and Rice.

Another change this year will be the two Division II programs that do not qualify for the playoffs will play each other in Week 9.

The four schools that don’t qualify for the Division III playoffs will complete in the new Vermont Coaches Association Tournament Cup.

DIVISION I

Bellows Falls Academy-St. Albans, Burlington/South Burlington, Burr and Burton, Champlain Valley, Essex, Hartford, Middlebury, Rutland, St. Johnsbury

DIVISION II: 

Bellows Falls, Brattleboro, Colchester, Fair Haven, Mount Anthony, Lyndon, Mount Mansfield, North Country, Spaulding, U-32.

DIVISION III:

Bellows Falls Academy-Fairfax, Mill River, Milton, Mount Abraham, Oxbow, Otter Valley, Poultney, Rice, Springfield, Windsor, Woodstock.
