Vermont Top 5 high school football rankings head into state championships

It will be No. 1 vs. No. 2 for the Vermont Division I state championship this Saturday.

Champlain Valley Union, ranked No. 1 in the High School Football America Vermont Top 5 high school football rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, will play No. 2 Rutland. The Redhawks will be looking for their second state title in the last three years.

Rutland is in its first championship since 2018. The last time the Raiders won a high school football championship was 2015.

In Division II, Rice Memorial is playing for a state championship for the first time since 2014. That year, the Green Knights beat Fair Haven, Saturday’s opponent, by a lopsided score of 60-14. Fair Haven’s last championship game appearance in 2018 when the Slaters lost to Burr & Burton. FH’s last state title was in 2017.

In Division III, Woodstock will be looking for gold for the first time since its 2019 title, when it plays Otter Valley, who’s looking for its first state championship since 2015.

Rice Memorial (9-1) vs. Fair Haven (8-2), 11 a.m.

Division III

Woodstock (8-0) vs. Otter Valley (5-4), 2 p.m.

Division I

Champlain Valley (10-0) vs. Rutland (8-1), 5 p.m.
