Many believe that Alabama quarterback Bryce Young will be the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Young’s journey to being the overall No. 1 pick began in Southern California. As a freshman, he split time with senior Andrew Tovar at Cathedral High School in the shadows of downtown Los Angeles. After two years with the Phantoms, he transferred to Mater Dei High School. During his junior season (2018), Young led the Monarchs to a second straight High School Football America national championship.

Below is video of Young from his freshman year at Cathedral. As we mentioned, he split time with Tovar in 2016.

Young threw for 1,445 yards and 14 touchdowns with six interceptions. Tovar finished with 2,224 yards passing with 22 touchdowns against four picks.

While Young will hear his name called in Las Vegas in April, Tovar’s career ended without much fanfare.

Tovar, who threw for over 10,000 yards during his high school career with 142 touchdowns, signed a scholarship with the University of Arizona. After two years without seeing any playing time, Tovar moved on to Black Hills State University in South Dakota. It appears after playing three games with the Yellow Jackets in 2019, Tovar’s career came to an end.
