To celebrate the finalists being named for this year’s Heisman Trophy, High School Football looks back to Dillon Gabriel, Travis Hunter, Ashton Jeanty and Cam Ward in high school. Below are their Hudl highlights.
Dillon Gabriel, Mililani HS (Hawaii)
Gabriel, a 3-start prospect at Mililani, was considered the 15th best dual-threat quarterback by Rivals. During his senior season, he was named Gatorade’s Hawaii Football Player of the Year after throwing forĀ 3,754 yards and 38 touchdowns. When he graduated, Gabriel held the state record with 9,948 career passing yards. At the time, his 105 passing touchdowns was the second most all-time.
Travis Hunter, Collins Hill HS (Georgia)
Just like at Colorado, Hunter was a great two-way player at Collins Hill in suburban Atlanta. He played on the school’s varsity team for four years, finishing out as a Class 7A state champ and a 5-star recruit.
Offensively, he caught 272 balls for 3,963 yards and 48 touchdowns. His 48 career TDs is the second most all-time in Georgia. On defense, Hunter had 19 interceptions to go along with 116 tackles.
Ashton Jeanty, Lone Star HS (Texas)
At Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas, Jeanty also played baseball and was a part of the school’s track and field team. He was considered a 4-star prospectd by 247Sports.
Jeanty played on both sides of the ball in high school. In addition to running back, he also played at widr receiver. On the other side of the ball, he was a defensive end and linebacker. He averaged 8-yards per carry during his season season, finishing with 1,843 yards and 31 touchdowns. He also caught 41 balls for 810 yards and 10 scores.
Cam Ward, Columbia HS (Texas)
Ward was a two-sport star at Columbia High School. He was named All-District Offensive MVP in basketball twice. On the gridiron, he closed-out his career with over 2,200 yards passing and 17 touchdowns. He rans for 11 scores. In 2019, Ward led his team to a co-district championship.
The 2024 Heisman Trophy winner will be announced Saturday night in New York City.
