The calendar may say April 17, 2021, but Saturday night’s Southern California showdown between St. John Bosco and Mater Dei is a huge football game no matter what time of year it’s played.
Even with a COVID-19 shortened regular season and no postseason, it’s hard to argue that this game is for all of the marbles in California. Certainly, the winner will walk away with the Trinity League title, but most believe, including me, that this is the unofficial California state championship.
And, unless you’ve been living under a rock, these two are two of the best in America with Bosco winning the 2019 High School Football America national championship and Mater Dei winning back-to-back HSFA national titles in 2017 and 2018.
Below, you can watch my chat with SJB head coach Jason Negro about Saturday’s showdown.
