Virginia high school drops varsity football

Park View High School in Sterling, Virginia will not be playing varsity football this year and possibly next year.

NBC 4 TV in Washington, DC is reporting that school officials have ended the varsity season because only 18 players showed-up for the first day of practice.

The school will field a junior varsity team this season. The Virginia High School League recommends that no member school which has less than 25 students physically fit and eligible for participation should engage in varsity football.

Within the last month, two Indiana teams announced that they were dropping varsity ball for the 2018 season. Earlier this month, Trimble County High in Kentucky cancelled its season. In Ohio, Millersport High School dropped its team because of low numbers
