Waipahu wins Hawaii Division I high school football championship

Waipahu beat Konawaena 53-28 in the Hawaii Division I high school football championship game Saturday night at John Kauinana Stadium. The win avenges the Maurauders’ loss to Konawaena in the 2022 state title game.

Sophomore quarterback Elijah Mendoza threw for 415 yards and four touchdowns in the win.

Waipahu finishes 8-4. Konawaena wraps up 2023 with an 11-2 mark.
