Falls Church High School head football coach Timothy Coogan is the Washington Commanders High School Coach of the Week.

Below is what the Commanders have written about Coach Coogan winning the award:

With over a decade of service at FCHS and recently stepping into the role of head coach, Coach Coogan has become a respected leader both on the field and in the community. He actively participates in school and community events, fostering an environment of equality where every member of the football program—whether a player, manager, or support staff—is valued as crucial to the team’s success.

A true motivator, Coach Coogan pushes his athletes to excel in both the classroom and on the field. He emphasizes the importance of overcoming physical and mental challenges, believing these skills will benefit his players in life beyond sports. Despite facing personal challenges, including coaching through a herniated disc, he remains dedicated to player safety by implementing heads-up tackling techniques, concussion testing, and using guardian caps to minimize injury risk. Additionally, he promotes mental health by having a sports psychologist on staff and providing academic support to help his athletes succeed. Coach Coogan’s holistic approach and passion for the sport have made a significant impact on the Falls Church High School community.

About the Washington Commanders Coach of the Week

The High School Coach of the Week Program is an NFL initiative that aims to highlight local high school football coaches who consistently demonstrate a dedication to their programs, their players’ health and safety, and making a difference in their community. The winning coaches are selected by a panel of Washington Legends and Commanders staff, and each coach will receive a $2,000 donation for their football program from the Washington Commanders Charitable Foundation. All Coaches recognized throughout the season will be invited to the Commanders home game against the Dallas Cowboys to network with other Coach of the Week award recipients for an end-of-season celebration. In addition, these Coaches are eligible to be named the Washington Commanders’ nominee for the Don Shula NFL Coach of the Year award towards the end of the season.
