Mater Dei’s win streak reached 18 straight Friday night in its season opening 42-0 win over West High School from Salt Lake City, Utah. The Monarchs, who are High School Football America’s reigning national champs and No. 1 in our preseason rankings rolled behind junior quarterback Elijah Brown, who completed 20-of-26 passes for 285 yards with five touchdowns.

Next-up for Mater Dei is a road trip to Las Vegas next week to face defending Nevada 5A champ Bishop Gorman, ranked No. 13 in the High School Football America 100, powered by NFL Play Football.

Gorman opened its season Friday night with a 42-7 defeat of No. 92 Corner Canyon (Utah).
