The United Football League (UFL) officially opens this Friday with eight teams ready to attack the league’s 10-game regular season.
To get you ready for the regular season, High School Football America has put each team’s roster in one spot. We also take a look at where the league’s quarterbacks played their high school football. Each team carries three QB’s.
Maybe the most interesting UFL QB is Luis Perez of the Arlington Renegades, who led the team to the XFL championship in 2023. What makes the Southern California native unique is he never played varsity football at Otay High School.
Perez, who led the UFL in passing yards (2,310), touchdowns (18), passer rating (99.4) and completions (225) in 2024, played sub-varsity at Otay Ranch, but quit after after multi-position changes. He moved back under center at Southwestern, a junior college in Chula Vista, California.
In 2015, he moved on to Texas A&M-Commerce, a Division II school. He led the program to the 2017 Division II national championship, winning the Harlon Hill Trophy, which is given to the top player in the division.
While he’s signed with the Los Angeles Chargers and Rams, Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles, Perez has never played in an NFL game.
Houston Roughnecks quarterback Anthony Brown, Michigan Panthers QB Bryce Perkins and San Antonio Brahams signal-callers Kevin Hogan and Kellen Mond are the only quarterbacks to play in a regular season NFL game.
Hogan, who played a Gonzaga in Washington, DC, played eight games for the Cleveland Browns in 2016 and 2017. He played in one game for the Tennessee Titans in 2021.
Mond, who led IMG Academy (Florida) to a perfect 11-0 record in 2016, played in one regular season game with the Minnesota Vikings. That 2016 IMG team finished No. 3 in the High School Football America Top 25 national rankings..
Brown, who attended St. John Vianney High School in New Jersey, played in the Baltimore Ravens‘ Week 18 game in 2022 with Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley injured.
Perkins started for the Rams in 2022 when Matthew Stafford was injured. Perkins led Chandler to an Arizona state championship in 2015. He does own a Super Bowl ring, given to him for being a member of the Rams’ practice squad when the team won SB LVI against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Like Perkins, Michigan Panthers quarterback Danny Etling won a Super Bowl ring as a member of the New England Patriots practice squad in 2018 when the Pats beat the Rams 13-3 in SB LIII.
Troy Williams, one of three Memphis Showboats quarterbacks, played several regular season games in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Williams played scholastically at Narbonne in California.
Birmingham is the defending UFL champ. Last year, the Stallions beat San Antonio 25-0. It was the organization’s third straight spring league championship, having won the 2022 and 2023 USFL titles.
In 2024, the USFL and XFL merged to create the UFL.
