Mallard Creek, ranked #18 in the High School Football America Preseason Top 25, opened the 2016 season with a hard fought 7-3 win over Dillon from South Carolina Friday night. The Mavericks have won three straight North Carolina 4AA state titles, while Dillon has won four straight South Carolina 2A titles.
Mallard Creek took a 7-0 halftime lead and held-on in the second half.

The loss snapped Dillon’s 37-game win streak.

Next-up for Mallard Creek is Butler, which opened with a 55-7 win over Olympic Friday night. Last season the Mavericks beat Butler twice, one in the regular season and then in the second round of the playoffs.
