When it comes to high school football coverage in Utah, nobody does it like the Deseret News. Even though the season doesn’t kick-off until August 18th, the newspaper and website have already put-out all of the schedules for the 104 teams playing football across the state in 2017.
With the state realigning this year and adding a sixth classification, there’s lots of excitement, especially in the new 6A classification. That’s because two-time defending 4A champ East has decided to play-up this year, meaning even though the Leopards qualify for 5A, they’ll be playing in 6A. That means 6A will feature East and 2016 5A champ Bingham.
Last year, East finished No. 1 in the High School Football America Utah Top 10 with Bingham just a notch behind at No. 2 in our rankings that are developed with our proprietary algorithm. Adding to the excitement is the fact that the two will square-off during the regular season on August 25th at Bingham.
East, which finished No. 44 in our national rankings last season, will also play another tough interstate schedule in 2017. The Leopards, who beat De La Salle (Concord, CA) and Pulaski Academy (Little Rock, AR) last year, will play four-time defending Arizona state champ Saguaro, the week after Bingham on September 1st in Scottsdale, Arizona. East will then close-out the regular season on October 20th at home against IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL), which finished No. 3 in our national rankings in 2016.

Bingham will play one out-of-state game in 2017 when it takes-on Hawaii-power Kahuku, which finished No. 2 in the High School Football America Hawaii Top 5 last year. The two will play September 9th in the Polynesian Football Classic at UNLV’s Sam Boyd Stadium. Alta will also play in the two-game event, taking-on Nevada’s Liberty High School.
