The 2018 Georgia high school football season should be a good one with several teams in the mix for a high ranking in the High School Football America Preseason 100 that will be released on July 1. Last season, seven teams from the Peachtree State finished in our national rankings that are created with our proprietary algorithm.
Georgia Teams in 2017 HSFA 100
No. 47 North Gwinnett
No. 63 Colquitt County
No. 74 Archer
No. 75 Grayson
No. 78 Rome
No. 92 Blessed Trinity
No. 99 Buford
The regular season kicks-off in mid-August with games beginning on Thursday, August 16 with two Corky Kell Classic games at Rome’s Barron Stadium. The second game of the doubleheader features two-time defending state champ Rome putting its 27-game win streak on the line against Marietta, a team loaded with talent that will play one of the toughest schedules in the state.
In addition to Rome, the Blue Devils will play Maryland power Good Counsel and St. John’s College High School on the road in Washington, D.C. Both teams finished 2017 in the HSFA 100. Marietta will also host Grayson, which means the Blue Devils have four games against teams that were ranked in our national Top 100.
Speaking of Grayson, the Rams have another top-flight schedule that will have them in the mix for a high national ranking. In addition to the Marietta game on September 7, the Rams play New Jersey power Bergen Catholic, which returns plenty of talent from last year’s squad that finished No. 12 in the nation.
On September 21, Grayson will host Class 7A runner-up Colquitt County, which won are national championship in 2015. Two weeks later, the Rams will play their Region 8-AAAAAAA showdown against Archer. Last year, Grayson lost to Archer 6-3 during the regular season.
