Class AAA in Georgia is home to Cedar Grove, which has won four state titles in the last five years, including last year’s championship.
There’s no doubt that the Saints will be highly-favored to win back-to-back crowns with tons of returning talent. The toughest test may come inside Region 5, which includes Atlanta’s Carver High and Sandy Creek.
Cedar Grove and Carver met for the state title last year with the Saints winning 56-26. During their regular season matchup, the Saints won 17-0.
While, Carver was 0-2 against Cedar Grove, Sandy Creek knocked-off the Saints 40-35 in the regular season finale. That forced a three-way tie for the regional title, since Carver beat Sandy Creek 36-29.
Thanks to the state’s bi-annual realignment, Columbus Carver, last year’s 4A runner-up, drops into 3A. The Tigers are in Region 1, which includes Columbus, Crisp County, Dougherty, Monroe and Thomasville.
Crisp County made it to the Final 8 last year. The Cougars lost to Cedar Grove 28-6 in the state quarterfinals.
