Indiana will crown six state champs this weekend at Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the National Football League‘s Indianapolis Colts, the presenter of the 2023 Indiana High School Athletic Association championships.
For the first time since 2019, there will be a new champ in the state’s largest division. Ben Davis, who knocked off three-time defending 6A champ Center Grove last week, will play Crown Point Saturday night.
Both teams enter the game ranked in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. BD is currently ranked No. 23 in our rankings created with our proprietary algorithm. The Giants (12-1), whose only loss was to No. 5 IMG Academy (Florida), are looking for their tenth overall state football championship. They’re playing for their first state title since 2017.
Crown Point (13-0) will be playing for its first-ever high school football state championship. The Bulldogs enter the contest ranked No. 278 in the HSFA 300. This is the first time that the Dawgs have been ranked this high since we began our computer rankings in 2013.
Championship weekend kicks-off Friday morning with two-time defending 1A champ Indianapolis Lutheran (12-0) playing Adams Central (14-0) for the title. This will be the third straight year that they play each other in the championship game.
Friday afternoon, Bishop Chatard, No. 182 in the HSFA 300, plays Heritage Hill for the 3A championship. Chatard is looking for a record-extending 17th Indiana high school football championship.
In the final game Friday, Fort Wayne Snider (12-1) takes on Decatur Central (11-2) in 5A. Snider is looking for its first state crown since 2015. DC is playing for its first state championship.
Saturday opens with the 2A title game between Bishop Luers (11-3) and North Posey (13-1). Luers owns 11 state titles. North Posey is looking for its first title.
In the 4A game, East Central (14-0) is trying to go back-to-back. The undefeated Trojans, ranked No. 175 in America, plays NorthWood (12-2)
