The 2023 South Carolina high school football championships will be played this weekend at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg. Below are the five championship matchups.
Oceanside Collegiate vs. Gray Collegiate
Class 2A – Thursday, November 30 – 7 p.m.
Oceanside Collegiate brings an eight-game win streak into the game. The 11-2 Landsharks are hoping to improve upon last season’s championship game loss to Abbeville. The are led by freshman quarterback Aidan Manavian.
Gray Collegiate advanced to the title game by beating defending champ Abbeville in the state semifinals. The War Eagles won their only state championship in 2021.
Christ Church vs. Johnsonville
Class 1A – Friday, December 1 – 2 p.m.
This is a rematch of last year’s championship game. Christ Church is looking to go back-to-back after last year’s 43-20 win.
Dutch Fork vs. White Knoll
Class 5A – Friday, December 1 – 8 p.m.
The championship game is rematch between the Region IV-5A teams. White Knoll is hoping to do in the championship game what it did during the regular season. However, since losing 17-14 to White Knoll on October 6, Dutch Fork has ripped-off seven wins to return to the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.
Nobody expected DF to be playing for a seventh state title in the last eight years, but it is. White Knoll, ranked No. 201 in the HSFA 300, is playing for its first state title. Dutch Fork is looking for its eighth state title under head coach Tom Knotts, the 2020 High School Football America Coach of the Year.
After starting the season ranked No. 11 in our preseason rankings, the Silver Foxes sit at No. 229 this week.
Westside vs. South Florence
Class 4A – Saturday, December 2 – 12 p.m.
Defending 4A champ South Florence is ranked No. 85 in America. The Bruins are a perfect 14-0, while Westside brings a 13-1 mark into the contest. The Rams have won 13 straight since losing their season opener (43-28) against Belton-Honea Path
Daniel vs. Camden
Class 3A – Saturday, December 2 – 7 p.m.
Daniel and Camden will play for the 3A state title for the third time in the last four years. Daniel has won the past two championship meetings.
