Bishop McDevitt sweeps the top awards in Class 5A from the Pennsylvania Football Writers. Crusaders head coach is the Coach of the Year and quarterback Stone Saunders is the Player of the Year.

McDevitt won the Class 5A state championship last month, finishing No. 205 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.

Saunders, who will playing his college ball at the University of Kentucky, leaves high school football as one of the top passers all-time in a state that has produced Hall of Famers Dan Marino, Joe Montana and Joe Namath.

In September, Saunders broke the state record for touchdown passes in a career. He passed Steelton-Highspire’s Alex Erby that night and finished his career with 204 touchdown passes, which is the third all-time nationally.

He also heads to the college game as the state’s all-time leader in passing yards with 13,719 yards. His 781 completions also puts him at that top of the record book in that category.

Saunders is also the first Pennsylvania QB to throw for at least 3,000 yards in all four seasons of high school.

In addition to this year’s state championship, Saunders won a state title as a sophmore.

Below is the entire PFW’s Class 5A All-State Team.
