Massillon Washington, which finished last season ranked No. 26 in the High School Football America 300, powered by NFL Play Football, will test itself this year against three teams that finished in our Top 300. The good news for Tiger fans is all of those contests will be at home at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.
The season opener will feature Massillon Washington squaring-off with Valdosta (Georgia), America’s all-time winningest high school football program. The Tigers are No. 4 on the all-time list. Valdosta finished No. 196 in our national rankings.
After Ohio opponents GlenOak and Mansfield, Massillon Washington welcomes Indiana’s Elkhart High to its historic stadium. Elkhart finished 7-3 last year.
Maybe the most anticipated game on the schedule will take place September 15 when the Tigers welcome reigning Division I champ St. Edward to Massillon. St. Ed has won back-to-back state championships. The Eagles finished No. 12 in America last year.
St. Ed will be looking for revenge from 2022. Last year, the Tigers handed the Eagles a 31-28 defeat, their only loss of the year.
The other two non-Ohio opponents will be Middletown (Delaware) on September 22 and Washington D.C.’s St. John’s College High School on September 29. SJC won its second straight Washington Catholic Athletic Association title last year. The Cadets finished No. 47 in the HSFA 300.
The Tigers will close-out the regular season against its arch-rival McKinley in the 134th renewal of the game known as The War of 1894.
