Mater Dei (Santa Ana, California) hit its season scoring average Friday night in a 56-14 win over Orange Lutheran (Orange, California). The Monarchs (7-0, 2-0 Trinity League), who were averaging 56.6 points per game through their first six wins, got another big performance from sophomore quarterback J.T. Daniels, who tossed five touchdown passes in the victory. Three of the touchdown strikes went to Stanford-bound Osiris St. Brown.
The win, coupled with St. John Bosco‘s (6-1, 2-0 Trinity League) victory over Santa Margarita Friday night, sets-up what figures to be the Trinity League championship game between the two next week at Cerritos College. Mater Dei is ranked #3 in the latest High School Football America Top 25, while Bosco is ranked #6. Mater Dei is ranked #1 in both the High School Football America California and Southern California Top 25’s, while St. John Bosco is #2 in both of those polls.
OLu actually jumped-out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, which marked the first time this season that Mater Dei has trailed an opponent.
Daniels now has 40 touchdown passes on the season, which breaks the school record of 36 set by Billy Blanton in 1991.
