Four 2024 North Carolina high school football champs will be crowned this weekend.

Friday night, at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan Memorial Stadium, Grimsley will battle Rolesville for the Class 4A championship. Both teams are highly-ranked in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.

When these two met on August 30, No. 42 Grimsley beat No. 73 Rolesville 35-20.

Grimsley is playing in its second state championship in three years, having lost to New Bern in the 2022 final. The Whirlies won a state title in 2020.

Rolesville is looking for its first state championship. The Rams lost in the 2020 4AA game.

In the 3A championship at Carter-Finley Stadium, on the campus of N.C. State in Raleigh, Seventy-First will be looking for its fourth overall state championship when it plays West Charlotte. The Falcons have lost to Hickory in last year’s championship game.

Seventy-First brings a perfect 15-0 record into the game. The Falcons have put together a string of four straight undefeated regular seasons.

After going winless three seasons ago, West Charlotte will be playing in its first championship game since finishing runner-up in 2006.

In the only matchups of two unbeatens, Monroe plays Northeastern for the 2A championship. Both teams bring 14-0 records into the game at UNC.

In 1A, Tarboro is making its eighth straight championship game appearance. The Vikings, who play Corvian Community, are looking for their fifth title during the current stretch. Corvian is the first charter school to play for a state football title.
