Canton McKinley (Ohio) hires new head coach

One of the winningest high school football programs in America has a new head coach.

Canton McKinley has hired Renzy Parnell, who over the past 10 years has been the defensive coordinator at Archbishop Hoban. During his stretch at DC, Hoban won five state championship. Hoban finished No. 81 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, last season.

This will be Parnell’s first head coaching job. He takes over a program is one of the winningest in America.

After an 8-5 season last year, Canton McKinley owns 882 all-time wins. The Bulldogs record since 1894 is 874-376-42. They are only 18 wins away from becoming the eighth team in America to win 900 games.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to build a culture based on love, and to lead young men to fulfill their full potential,” said Parnell in a news release from the school district. “There will be challenges and tough love moments. I understand that I will not please everyone, but God will be at the core of my values, and we will strive to be the best at what we do!”

“Coach Parnell brings a wealth of successful coaching experience and numerous state titles,” said Athletic Director Mike Schott. “He has all the qualities we were looking for to lead our program, and we are ready to start. We are confident that his ability to build character and instill discipline will create a winning culture beyond the field.”

“Mr. Parnell is an exceptional fit for McKinley High School,” said Board of Education President Scott Russ. “His coaching ability and passion for the game will make a significant impact not only on our football program but also on our entire community. We look forward to watching him lead our football program and continue McKinley’s legacy of excellence.”

Superintendent Jeff Talbert said, “Renzy Parnell is a man of integrity and a leader who will inspire our students to grow both as athletes and as individuals. His focus on developing young men of character and his proven ability to enhance team performance through strategic planning and motivation will be invaluable assets to our school and community. He understands and embraces our district values of leadership, excellence, and community,” Talbert said. “We are thrilled to have him as part of the Bulldog family.”
