Over the last couple of months, I’ve mentioned on X (@HSFBamerica) that High School Football America will be adding a new feature called HSFA Eats, giving you great food ideas and recipes, taking you from tailgates to your dinner table.
Spearheading HSFA Eats is our co-founder Trish Hoffman, who 15 years ago today auditioned for the very first MasterChef television show in America on FOX, starring British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey. Not only did Trish audition at Sur La Table in Naperville, Illinois, on January 24, 2010, she advanced into the third round of the tryouts.
Below is a long distance photo of the audition. Since I wasn’t allowed inside the taping, I had to sneak this photo, so I apologize for it being blurry. Remember, iPhones in 2010 weren’t as good as they are now…LOL!
Trish was one of 75,000 amateur chiefs around America auditioning with most never making it out of the first round.
For the first round, Trish had to present a single dish, served at room temperature, to several professional chefs. Her choice was pozole soup garnished with fresh avocado. And, because she’s always an overachiever in the kitchen, she added homemade flan with tequila.
Here is a photo of the finished dish that she had to present to the producers 15 years ago.

It was a beautiful presentation that helps you understand why we’re launching HSFA Eats to help you with your table and tailgate.
Of course, I’m biased, but Trish is one of the best chefs, period. And, I’ve met a lot of them during my travels around this great country.
Until now, we’ve been dabbling with HSFA Eats — as you can see in a tweet below from 2022.
With the NFL’s big game right around the corner, we’re going start with Trish’s twist on pimento cheese that will be a hit at any Super Bowl. Look for her recipe with that will include detailed instruction on how to make it.
