It’s hard to believe that defense made a difference in Thursday night’s 65-42 Cedar Hill over #5 DeSoto in the Battle of the Beltway in southwest Texas, but it did.
DeSoto led the Longhorns 35-28 after the half, but Cedar Hill’s defense stiffened in the second half, only allowing one Eagle touchdown as the Longhorns moved to 4-0 in District 8-6A. Running back Aca’cedric Ware gave Cedar Hill the lead for good in the third quarter when he scored on a touchdown run that gave the Longhorns a 45-42 lead.
The Cedar Hill offense was led by Ware who rushed for 145 yards on 26 carries and four touchdowns. DaMarkus Lodge totaled 235 receiving yards with three touchdowns.
The Longhorn victory gave Cedar Hill its first victory over DeSoto since 2009. The two teams have split the last eight meetings with each winning four times.
