Year-in and year-out, Trinity plays one of the toughest out-of-state high school football schedules in the country. On Wednesday, the 24-time Kentucky state champs, that finished No. 9 in the High School Football America national rankings last year, unveiled a 2017 schedule that features teams from Florida, Indiana and Ohio, plus the usual slate of in-state programs, include Male.
As we noted earlier this year, the Shamrocks, who were No. 1 in the High School Football America Kentucky Top 10, will open the season against 2016 Indiana Class 6A state champ Carmel at home on August 18th. Carmel finished No. 37 in our national rankings last year. The Greyhounds return quarterback Jake McDonald, who as a junior led the school to its heart-stopping 16-13 overtime win over Center Grove in the state championship game.
The following week, Trinity head coach Bob Beatty will take his team on-the-road to play eight-time Indiana state champ Warren Central on August 25th. Last year, the Warriors finished No. 39 in the nation. WC is led on defense by safety Julius Brents, who has a dozen college scholarship offers and is ranked as Indiana’s No. 5 overall prospect by 247sports.com.
Archbishop Moeller will visit Trinity on September 1st. Moeller won back-to-back Ohio Division I state titles in 2012 and 2013. Defensive Tackle Aeneas Hawkins is Big Blue’s top recruiting prospect in the Class of 2018. The 3-star recruit, who is ranked the No. 14 recruit in Ohio, has 35 college scholarship offers. Tight end Brenden Bates, who has given his verbal to Kentucky, is the No. 21 overall prospect in the Buckeye State, according to 247Sports.com.
After playing 2015 Kentucky 6A champ Male, which advanced to the state quarterfinals last year, on September 8th, Trinity will host 2016 Florida 2A state runner-up Champagnat Catholic. Safety Nadab Joseph, who has given his verbal to LSU, is ranked as the 49th best overall prospect in the state, is Champagnat’s highest rated senior prospect. Defensive end Kayode Oladele is Florida’s No. 62 prospect, while on the opposite side upfront is defensive end Gregory Rousseau, who is ranked No. 73 and has given his verbal to Miami (FL).
