A fairly quiet week atop the NEW High School Football America 300

For the first time this season, there’s very little change at the top of the High School Football America 300 national high school football rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. The top fifteen teams hold their spots from last week, followed by Sierra Canyon (California) flip-flopping positions with four-time reigning Alabama 7A champ Thompson at No. 16 and No. 17.

Sierra Canyon has had an outstanding 5-0 start that includes wins over two Trinity League teams — No. 50 Orange Lutheran and No. 100 JSerra. This past weekend, the Trailblazers blew-out former No. 59 Saguaro (Arizona) 63-6. Four of SC’s wins have come against teams in the HSFA 300.

No. 1 Mater Dei (California) will open defense of its Trinity League title this week when it plays No. 171 Servite (California). The Monarchs have won back-to-back titles in America’s toughest high school football league. All six teams in the league are ranked in our national rankings.

While most fans would call St. John Bosco (California) MD’s top rival over the last decade, the Mater Dei/Servite rivalry actually has been hotly contested every year since 1961. The Monarchs have dominated the series with 44 wins in 63 matchups.

Last Friday, Mater Dei had a strong defensive effort in a 20-7 win over No. 40 St. Frances Academy (Maryland) in Baltimore.

No. 3 Chaminade-Madonna (Florida) picked-up another impressive victory last Thursday. The Lions moved to 5-0 with a 31-28 win over No. 11 Miami Central in a nationally-televised game. All five wins have come against teams that entered the game ranked in the HSFA Top 25. This week, C-M will play No. 136 Coconut Creek.

After an 0-2 start, Northern California’s De La Salle makes a huge move into the Top 100 this week. The Spartans beat former No. 74 Folsom 14-7 to jump 44 places to No. 79 in the latest rankings created with our proprietary algorithm. Folsom falls six spots to No. 80.

As far as new faces in the HSFA 300 this week, Missouri’s De Smet makes its first appearance in our national rankings in a long time. The Spartans check-in at No. 222 with an impressive 49-14 win over former No. 147 Christian Brothers College (Missouri).

Overall there are 13 new teams in the rankings:

  • No. 222 De Smet (Missouri)
  • No. 240 Anderson (Ohio)
  • No. 258 Germantown (Tennessee)
  • No. 268 Murrieta Valley (California)
  • No. 270 Granite Hills (El Cajon, California)
  • No. 272 Dickinson (Texas)
  • No. 275 Houston (Tennessee)
  • No. 276 Ridge Point (Texas)
