The Jets named Jermain Johnson of Montclair High School in Montclair, NJ as this week’s High School Coach of the Week. Coach Johnson will receive a $1,000 donation to benefit the school’s football program. Along with the monetary award, Montclair High School will receive an automatic bid to compete in the 2024 New York Jets 11-ON Tournament.
Coach Johnson will be invited to attend the New York Jets vs. Houston Texans game on Sunday, December 10th, where he will be honored on-field at MetLife Stadium.
In its 28th year, the Jets High School Coach of the Week award is given to a coach in the tri-state area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school, and their student-athletes.
The Montclair Mounties snapped a five-year losing streak to East Orange Campus High School in a 42-27 win over the Jaguars. The win improved their overall record to 5-1 on the season, in which they have outscored their opponents 184-98. Johnson grew up in Bloomfield, NJ and attended Bloomfield High School, where he was a running back. After graduating, he went on to play at Montclair State University, switching positions to defensive back. Following his college career, Johnson stayed at Montclair State University as a secondary coach before returning to Bloomfield High School as an assistant. He later went on to coach at Paterson Eastside and Wayne Hills before starting at Belleville in 2018. Johnson took over at Montclair in 2022 and will look to add a sixth win in their upcoming game against Ridgewood.

For 10 weeks during the football season the Jets and Gatorade present the High School Coach of the Week award to a coach in the tri-state area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to his community, his school and his student-athletes. Gatorade and the Jets award each winner with a $2,000 check for their high school’s football program. In addition to the weekly award, a Coach of the Year is selected at the end of the high school season. The Coach of the Year winner is awarded $4,000 and receives a Gatorade cooler cart from the Jets and Gatorade.
