Many believe that De La Salle‘s (California) incredible 151-game high school football win streak is one of those streaks that will never be topped…much like Joe DiMaggio‘s 56-game hit streak. So, as we head toward the start of the 2016 season, who’s in position to challenge that incredible DLS streak that began in 1992 and ended in 2004?
Currently, no team in America is within five years of possibly displacing De La Salle atop the all-time list. Edgewood Academy in Alabama enters 2015 with the longest active win streak at 71 straight.
To understand the magnitude of what is ahead of Edgewood, which has won six straight Alabama Independent School Association state titles, you have to understand that if the Wildcats emulate last season’s 13-0 record, it would take more than five years for the school to knock De La Salle from its perch. Edgewood’s current win streak ranks tied for 12th on the all-time list with Jefferson City in Missouri.
Bobby Carr, who led the Wildcats to 71 straight, resigned in the spring. He was replaced Edgewood alum Eric Folmar.
The distance between Edgewood and #2 on the current active win streak list is wide. Missouri’s Valle Catholic is 35 wins behind the Wildcats. Valle Catholic has won three straight Missouri Class 1 state titles with 45 consecutive wins.
Third on the current active list is Kimberly from Wisconsin with 42 straight victories, followed by Alaska’s Soldotna and Nevada’s Bishop Gorman with 39 consecutive wins.
Below is the Top 10 active 11-man win streaks enter 2016:
