It’s time to hand out the high school football championship hardware over the next three days in Alabama. Starting Wednesday night with the 7A championship game, there will be seven championship games at Protective Stadium in Birmingham.

The 7A and 6A games feature teams in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.

In the 7A title game, No. 65 Thompson plays No. 98 Central (Phenix City). These two are familiar foes when it comes to state championship games. In fact, it’s a rematch of last year’s title game won by Central 21-19.

In all, Central and Thompson have played four times in 7A championships games since 2018. Central won in 2018 and last year. Thompson won state crowns in 2019 and 2021 against the Red Devils.

Thompson enters the game with a 10-3 record, but all three losses have come by three total points. Yes, that’s three, one point losses and all were in overtime. Those L’s came against No. 46 Grayson (Georgia), No. 113 Hoover and defending 6A champ Clay-Chalkville, which had climbed as high as No. 39 in the nation, earlier this year.

Central brings a 10-2 record into the game. The Red Devils losses have come against No. 84 Auburn and No. 173 Opelika.

The 6A championship game that will be played on Friday, No. 63 Saraland will square-off with No. 144 Parker, who is playing in its first state championship game since 1980. Saraland is playing in its third straight 6A title game. The Spartans won the title in 2022.

Two teams, Moody (5A) and Tuscaloosa Academy (2A), are playing in their first-ever championship games.

Moody will play Montgomery Catholic, which won last year’s 4A title. MC is riding a 28-game win streak.

In 4A, Cherokee County, which has lost two straight in the title game, will play Jackson.

Reeltown returns to the Super 7 2A championship game after losing to Fffye in last year’s title tilt.

In addition to the Super 7, there will be two girls’ flag football championships handed-out on Wednesday. You can see the complete championship schedule below.
