To say it’s been a strange season in Alaska would be an understatement. Heading into Week 3 of the COVID-riddled 2020 high school football season, only eight games have been played.
On Thursday, the Alaska School Activities Association announced that it would be holding cross-country and tennis state championships, but made no announcement about football. The ASAA is expected to make a decision on football on September 23.
Schools in the Anchorage School District received good news on Thursday when officials announced that teams could begin full practices on Friday. For the last three weeks, athletes in the ASD were limited to conditioning-only workouts.
If there are no changes, Anchorage teams will be allowed to play their first games on September 11. Anchorage teams will only be allowed to play Anchorage teams. Attendance at games will be limited, once contests begin.
We’re hoping to release our High School Football America Alaska Top 5 once a majority of teams in the state are playing.
