The Seattle Times is reporting that Bellevue head football coach Butch Goncharoff may have coached his final high school football games for the Wolverines. According to the newspaper, Goncharoff has been placed on administrative leave and school district officials are recommending that the school board fire him because him because of his lack of honesty and transparency in receiving over $420,000 from outside entities since 2009.
Earlier this year, the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association and an independent investigator released a report on violations committed by the Bellevue football program, including but not limited to booster payments, the enrollment of football players at an alternative academy, tuition payments for the aforementioned football players at that academy, the falsification of student athlete residence and the intimate involvement of coaches in these activities.
In the past, Goncharoff, who has led the program to eleven state titles, has said he will fight any attempt to fire him. The Bellevue School District’s next school board meeting is June 7th.
