On the eve National Signing Day, GoUpstate.com reported that Louisville head football coach Bobby Petrino is no longer aloud to recruit players at Dutch Fork High School in South Carolina.
The decision to ban Petrino and his staff from the school was made by head coach Tom Knotts, who made his decision after Louisville pulled its offer to the team’s star running back Matt Colburn last week.
Knotts told GoUpstate.com — “He (Petrino) won’t be able to recruit my school anymore and I imagine there will be some other coaches that will say the same thing. Trust factor is just not there. They’ve known about these three DBs wanting to go to the NFL for weeks now. To use that as an excuse doesn’t hold water with me.”
Petrino’s staff apparently changed its offer to Colburn, because school has three defensive backs that have declared early entry for the NFL draft, so they made defensive backs a priority in the later stages of recruiting.
Louisville offered Colburn, the state’s Mr. Football in 2014, a greyshirt, meaning he would enter the school in January 2016. As a three-year starter, Colburn rushed for over 5,600 yards with 91 career rushing TDs.
