One way or another, it looks like the 2023 Georgia high school football championships will include the use of instant replay.
Last week, the Georgia High School Association announced that it would work on hammering-out a plan that the organization’s executive committee could review at an April meeting.
Then several days later, a bill (HB 32) was introduced into the the Georgia General Assembly that states, “no high school which receives funding shall participate in sports events that does not utilize instant replay in Championship games.”

The reason instant replay is front-and-center in Georgia is because of a blown call in the 2022 3A championship game between Sandy Creek and nationally-ranked Cedar Grove.
Sandy Creek won 21-17 on a late touchdown that replays on Georgia Public Broadcasting showed wasn’t a touchdown.

In 2019, Alabama became the first state to use instant replay in high school football games. Since then, over a dozen states have added instant replay, mostly in state championship games.
