The top eight teams in the High School Football America Texas Top 25, powered by NFL Play Football, picked-up wins in their season openers. That means each team holds their preseason ranking in the first in-season rankings.
However, from No. 8 through No. 24 there is a compete re-shuffle and two new teams enter the rankings after picking-up upset victories.
New Braunfels shocking come-from behind 34-33 defeat of preseason No. 10 Denton Ryan is what caused a lot of the shuffling. Ryan led 33-14 before the Unicorns stormed back with 20 unanswered second half points.
New Braunfels moves into the statewide Top 25 for the first-time ever. Ryan, which plays four-time Arkansas 7A champ Bryant this week, falls to No. 21.
Then there was three-time TAPPS Division I champ Parish Episcopal’s 24-17 defeat of preseason No. 13 Aledo. PA moves into the Top 25 at No. 23. Aledo, who will play No. 5 Denton Guyer this week, falls to No. 24 in the new rankings created with our proprietary algorithm.
