17-time Tennessee high school football state champ Maryville opens the season ranked No. 1 in the High School Football America Tennessee Top 10 statewide rankings. The Rebels finished No. 23 in our national rankings in 2019.
Falling-in behind Maryville at No. 2 is Oakland, which lost to the Rebels 12-0 in the Class 6A state semifinals last year. The Patriots, who won the state crown in 2018, finished No. 73 nationally.
Alcoa checks-in at No. 3. The five-time defending state champs were the third Tennessee team in our final national rankings last year, finishing No. 79. The Tornadoes’ only loss was to arch-rival and nearby neighbor Maryville, who last year snapped Alcoa’s 29-game win streak.
Alcoa and Maryville will battle for the 92nd time on September 11. Maryville leads the all-time series 63-25-3.
