After leading Mica Mountain to a state championship in just three years of varsity football, Pat Nugent is the Arizona Cardinals High School Coach of the Year.
Last week, Mica Mountain, whose first full year of varsity football was in 2022, beat Arizona College Prep 42-13 to win Arizona’s Class 4A high school football title. The win capped a perfect 14-0 for the Thunderbolts.
This season marked the 22nd as a head coach for Nugent, who is now 172-66 all-time. Prior to Mica Mountain, Nugent was the head coach at Flowing Wells, Canyon del Oro and Cienega.
Nugent and the players will be introduced Sunday at the Cardinals game against the New England Patriots at State Farm Stadium. They will be joined by all of the Cardinals and Circle K High School Players and Coaches of the Week from the 2024 season.
