Lipscomb Academy head coach Trent Dilfer is heading to college football as a two-time high school football champ. Thursday, the Mustangs, ranked No. 13 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, beat No. 225 Christ Presbyterian Academy 42-0 for their second straight Tennessee Division II-AA state championship.

On Wednesday, Dilfer, who spent 14-years in the NFL and won a Super Bowl MVP as the quarterback of the Baltimore Ravens in 2000, announced he was taking the head coaching job at UAB in Alabama. Thursday’s game is the final chapter in Dilfer’s time at the Nashville. Since 2019, LA was 44-10 under Dilfer.

Vanderbilt-recruit Junior Sherrill was named the MVP after catching 11 balls for 141 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 60 yards on seven carries with another TD.
Thursday’s game at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga marked the third straight year that these two schools played for the state title. CPA has now played in five straight state championship with titles in 2018 and 2020.
CPA is coached by another former NFL quarterback, Ingle Martin, who has led the Lions to three state championships.
