There’s no doubt that Northwestern and Miami Central are two of the best teams in Florida, and according to the High School Football America algorithm, two of the best in the nation. Friday night, Northwestern, No. 13 in our Top 100 national rankings, ended Central’s season with a 24-18 win in the second round of the Florida 6A playoffs.
This one between District 16-6A foes looked to be wrapped-up early in the fourth quarter with Northwestern jumping-out to a 24-0 lead. However, the Rockets didn’t go away, closing to 24-16. The Bulls took at intentional safety to make it 24-18 with 31 seconds left.
Central was able to get inside the Bulls’ 10-yard line, but Northwestern’s defense was able to hold-off the charge of the Rockets, who entered the game ranked No. 14 in the High School Football America Top 100.
The win was the third straight for the Bulls over Central, which includes a 21-7 win during the regular season on October 20.
Next-up for Northwestern is another District 16-6A foe, Carol City, the defending 6A state champs. The Bulls beat Carol City 16-7 on October 12.
