Thursday night’s showdown between South Florida high school football powers Chaminade-Madonna and Miami Central didn’t disappoint. With a national television audience looking on, C-M, ranked No. 3 in the latest High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, beat No. 11 Miami Central 31-28 in a game that ended just near midnight due to lightning delays at the start.

The win was the fifth straight for Chaminade-Madonna over a team that entered the game ranked in our Top 25.
C-M senior quarterback Cedrick Bailey had an outstanding first half, tossing four touchdown passes to give the Lions a 31-21 lead at the half. The NC State-recruit connected with 5-star receiver Jeremiah Smith on two of those scores.
Central closed to within a field goal on the opening drive of the second half, but Chaminade-Madonna’s bend but don’t break defense came up with two big interceptions from Curtis Janvier to seal the victory.
South Florida fans have been waiting years for this heavyweight showdown. The two teams have brimming trophy cases with Chaminade-Madonna winnig five state championships in the last six years. Miami Central is going after its fifth straight state crown this year.
